Description

This flavorful Teriyaki Chicken recipe combines tender bite-sized chicken pieces coated in a savory and slightly sweet homemade sauce. Quick to prepare and cook, it’s perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner or meal prep. Serve over steamed rice for a classic Asian-inspired dish that balances protein and vibrant flavors in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Protein and Basic Seasoning

– 1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
– 1 Tbsp. olive oil
– Salt and pepper, to taste

Sauce

– 1/4 cup soy sauce
– 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 2 Tbsp. rice vinegar
– 1 Tbsp. cornstarch

Optional

– Steamed rice

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in skillet: Warm a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil, ensuring it coats the bottom evenly.
  2. Cook chicken: Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper, then add to the hot skillet. Cook, stirring often, until the chicken is cooked through and no longer pink, approximately 7-8 minutes.
  3. Prepare sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and cornstarch until fully combined and the cornstarch is dissolved.
  4. Add sauce: Pour the sauce into the skillet with cooked chicken. Continue to stir and cook until the mixture thickens to a shiny, glaze-like consistency, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately over steamed rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar according to taste.
  • For a thicker sauce, add an extra teaspoon of cornstarch dissolved in a bit of water.
  • This dish can be easily doubled for larger gatherings or meal prepping.
  • For extra flavor, garnish with sliced green onions or toasted sesame seeds.
