Description

This Sweet and Spicy Chex Mix is a delightful combination of crunchy cereals, pretzels, nuts, and bagel chips coated in a flavorful sweet and spicy seasoning. Baked low and slow to achieve a crispy texture, this snack mix is perfect for parties, road trips, or anytime you crave a tasty and addictive treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Snack Mix –

  • 9 cups Chex cereal (a combination of rice, corn, and wheat Chex cereals)
  • 1 cup mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup mini pretzel rods
  • 1 cup mini bread sticks
  • 2 cups nuts (a combination of almonds, whole cashews, and pistachios)
  • 1 cup bagel chips (Rye or plain bagel chips)

Sweet & Spicy Sauce For Seasoning –

  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) to prepare for baking the snack mix slowly to a perfect crisp.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the rice, corn, and wheat Chex cereals, mini pretzel twists, mini pretzel rods, mini bread sticks, bagel chips, and mixed nuts, ensuring an even distribution.
  3. Make the Sweet & Spicy Sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add Worcestershire sauce, honey, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and chili powder to the melted butter, then whisk thoroughly until fully blended.
  4. Coat the Snack Mix: Pour the prepared sweet and spicy sauce over the dry snack mix. Using a spatula, stir and fold gently to ensure all pieces are evenly coated with the seasoning.
  5. Arrange for Baking: Transfer the coated snack mix onto a baking tray. Spread it out into a single, even layer to promote uniform baking and crispiness.
  6. Bake the Mix: Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring every 20 to 25 minutes if desired, until the mix turns evenly crispy.
  7. Cool and Store: Remove the tray from the oven and allow the snack mix to cool completely on the tray. Once cooled, serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Stirring the mix every 20-25 minutes during baking can help achieve even crispiness and prevent burning.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper and chili powder according to your preferred spice level.
  • Use a variety of nuts and pretzels for different textures and flavors.
  • Store the cooled snack mix in an airtight container to keep it fresh and crunchy for up to three weeks.
  • This recipe makes approximately 9 cups of snack mix, perfect for sharing or gifting.
