Description

A delightful and crunchy Oyster Cracker Churro Snack Mix coated in a rich cinnamon toffee glaze. This sweet and spiced treat combines buttery brown sugar toffee with the crunch of oyster crackers, finished with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar for the perfect sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Snack Mix

  • 9 oz Oyster crackers

Toffee Coating

  • 1 cup Dark brown sugar (or light brown sugar)
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp Ground cinnamon (divided)

Topping

  • 3 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 3/4 tsp Kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line an extra-large rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and cover it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange the Crackers: Spread the oyster crackers evenly in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are well spaced for even coating.
  3. Mix Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, and kosher salt. Set this mixture aside to sprinkle later.
  4. Make the Toffee: In a small heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil and allow it to boil for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and the remaining 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
  5. Coat the Crackers: Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the oyster crackers on the baking sheet. Gently toss or stir the crackers to coat them evenly with the toffee glaze.
  6. Bake to Finish: Bake the coated crackers in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until the mixture is bubbly and golden.
  7. Add Final Cinnamon Sugar: Remove the batch from the oven and immediately sprinkle the reserved cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the warm crackers.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the snack mix to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, break apart any large clusters. Serve and enjoy your crunchy, sweet churro-inspired oyster cracker snack mix.

Notes

  • If parchment paper is not available, be sure to butter the aluminum foil or the baking sheet to prevent sticking, as the toffee will adhere to the pan.
  • Store the snack mix in an airtight container or resealable bag for up to one week to maintain freshness.
  • To reheat, spread the snack mix in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet and warm in a 325-degree F oven for about 5 minutes.
