  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

For the Caramel Filling

  • 11 oz bag baking caramels, unwrapped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Make the Caramel Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine unwrapped caramels and heavy cream. Stir constantly until the mixture melts into a smooth caramel sauce. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Mix Oat Crust: In a medium bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, and baking soda. Stir until the mixture is well combined and crumbly.
  4. Form Bottom Layer: Press half of the oat mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
  5. Bake Crust: Bake the crust for 10 minutes. Remove from oven but leave the oven on.
  6. Add Chocolate and Caramel: Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot crust. Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the chocolate layer.
  7. Add Topping: Crumble and sprinkle the remaining oat mixture evenly over the caramel and chocolate layers.
  8. Bake Again: Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 18-20 minutes, until the edges are golden and set.
  9. Cool and Slice: Let the Caramelitas cool completely in the pan to allow the caramel to set. Once cool, slice into bars and serve.

  • Allow bars to cool completely before slicing to prevent them from falling apart.
  • You can line the pan with parchment paper for easier removal and cleaner slices.
