Description

Hot Dog Mummies are a fun and spooky twist on classic pigs in a blanket, perfect for Halloween or any festive occasion. Wrapping hot dogs in flaky crescent roll dough with mustard eyes creates a playful and delicious appetizer that’s easy to prepare and sure to delight kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 8 hot dogs
  • 1 (8-ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, or as needed (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) to get it ready for baking the mummies.
  2. Cook the hot dogs: Place hot dogs in a saucepan and cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and let the hot dogs simmer until they are warmed through, about 5 minutes. Drain the hot dogs and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  3. Prepare the crescent rolls: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 strips. Wrap each hot dog with one strip of dough, leaving small gaps unwrapped to create the look of mummy bandages. These gaps will also be where you place the eyes.
  4. Add mustard eyes: Place small dots of yellow mustard on each wrapped hot dog to form eyes, or add nose and mouth details if desired, enhancing the mummy appearance.
  5. Bake the mummies: Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown and flaky.

Notes

  • You can substitute ketchup or mayonnaise for mustard eyes if preferred.
  • Make sure to pat dry the hot dogs well before wrapping to prevent soggy dough.
  • For a spicier version, add a little chili powder or smoked paprika to the dough before wrapping.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce like ketchup, mustard, or cheese sauce for extra flavor.
