Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Mozzarella Sticks:

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 12 ounces low moisture mozzarella cheese, cut into pieces 3-inch x 3/4 inch (or 12 oz string cheese cut in half)

For Serving:

  • Homemade marinara sauce, for dipping
  • 1 quart vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mozzarella Sticks: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Mix flour with salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a bowl. Beat eggs with water in another bowl. Combine Panko and Italian seasoning in a third bowl.
  2. Dip and Coat: Dip each cheese piece in the egg mixture, then flour, back in the egg, and coat with Panko. Place on the prepared baking sheet and freeze for 45 minutes.
  3. Fry the Sticks: Heat oil to 350°F. Fry cheese sticks in batches until golden brown, about 2 minutes per batch. Drain on a cooling rack.
  4. Serve: Serve immediately with marinara sauce.
