Description

This Healthy Breakfast Apple Crumble is a nutritious twist on a classic dessert, perfect for a wholesome morning start. Featuring sautéed sweet apples infused with cinnamon and a crunchy pecan-oat crumble, it’s baked to golden perfection and served warm with your choice of milk, yogurt, or ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples:

  • 6 sweet apples
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp coconut oil

Crumble:

  • 2/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup pecans
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tsp honey

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Chop the sweet apples into bite-sized pieces. Heat 2 teaspoons of coconut oil in a pan over medium-high heat, then add the apples along with 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and a pinch of salt. Cover the pan and sauté the apples for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) to get it ready for baking the crumble.
  3. Make the crumble topping: Place oats, pecans, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and 2 teaspoons of honey in a food processor or blender. Add about 1 tablespoon of water to assist blending. Process until the mixture becomes crumbly and sticks together in larger pieces.
  4. Assemble the crumble: Lightly oil a small baking pan or line it with parchment paper. Evenly spread the sautéed apples in the pan. Grab portions of the crumble mixture and squeeze together to create bigger chunks, then scatter these pieces evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake the dish: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until the crumble topping turns golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Allow the apple crumble to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm with a splash of milk or a dollop of yogurt for breakfast, or treat yourself with a scoop of ice cream as a dessert.

Notes

  • Choosing sweet apples like Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp enhances the natural sweetness.
  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds based on preference or availability.
  • For a vegan option, substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
  • Adding a pinch of nutmeg or ground ginger to the apples can enhance the warm spices.
  • This crumble is best enjoyed fresh but can be refrigerated and gently reheated within 2 days.
