Description
Create spooky and fun Gross Guy Halloween Donuts using baked cake donuts decorated with candy eyes, licorice hair and eyebrows, and a gooey strawberry filling. Perfect for a festive Halloween treat that’s both playful and delicious!
Ingredients
Baked Cake Donuts
- Prepared cake donut batter (quantity per your preferred recipe)
- Favorite Strawberry filling (amount as needed)
- Fresh strawberries, diced (about 1 cup)
Decorations
- White Candy Melts® Candy, 12 oz.
- Large Candy Eyeballs, 1 oz.
- Large Edible Black and White Candy Eyeball Sprinkles, 1 oz.
- Black licorice strings (enough to cut into eyebrows and hair pieces)
Instructions
- Bake Doughnuts: Prepare the cake donut batter following your favorite recipe directions. Pour the batter into donut pans and bake according to the recipe’s specified temperature and time. Once baked, allow the donuts to cool completely on a wire rack to ensure they are firm for decorating.
- Prepare Licorice Pieces: Using scissors, cut black licorice strings into 3/4 inch pieces for eyebrows and 1 1/2 inch pieces to create hair strands for the donuts.
- Melt Candy Melts: Melt white Candy Melts candy according to the package instructions, usually by microwaving in short intervals and stirring until smooth.
- Decorate Donuts: Use a piping bag or a small decorating bag filled with melted white Candy Melts to attach the large candy eyeballs and licorice eyebrows onto the donut surface. Insert the licorice hair pieces standing upright at the top of the donut to mimic messy hair.
- Attach Donuts to Plate: Use a small amount of melted white Candy Melts to glue each donut to a serving plate to keep them stable during display and serving.
- Prepare the Goo Filling: Dice fresh strawberries and combine with your favorite strawberry filling to create a gooey texture.
- Fill and Serve: Spoon the strawberry goo inside the hole of each donut and arrange some on the plate around each donut to enhance the spooky, messy effect.
Notes
- Ensure donuts are fully cooled before decorating to prevent melting or sliding of candy decorations.
- If you cannot find white Candy Melts, white chocolate chips melted with a teaspoon of vegetable oil can be a substitute.
- Use fresh strawberries for the best appearance and flavor in the goo mixture.
- Store decorated donuts in a cool place to keep candy decorations intact.
- For added fun, experiment with different candy eye sizes or colors.
