Description

These Garlic Butter Swim Biscuits are soft, fluffy, and bursting with rich garlic flavor. Made with buttermilk and freshly minced garlic for a perfect balance of savory and buttery goodness, they are baked in a pool of melted butter to ensure a tender, moist texture. Topped with a garlic butter glaze sprinkled with parsley, these biscuits are an irresistible side perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk (may need up to 2 cups)
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • ¼ cup salted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 450°F. Spray a 9×9 inch oven-safe glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, aluminum-free baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution of ingredients.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients and Garlic: Pour in 1 ¾ cups of buttermilk and add the finely minced garlic. Stir until a sticky batter forms. If the batter appears too dry, add a little more buttermilk until it reaches a thick and sticky consistency.
  4. Melt Butter and Prepare Baking Dish: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the ½ cup salted butter. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish, creating a buttery base for the biscuits.
  5. Transfer and Spread Biscuit Dough: Pour the biscuit dough directly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Use a nonstick sprayed hand or a spatula to spread the dough evenly over the butter. Some butter will run over the top of the dough, which contributes to the moistness.
  6. Score the Dough: Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 roughly equal squares. This scoring helps to cut the biscuits easily after baking.
  7. Bake the Biscuits: Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 25-30 minutes. Halfway through baking, rotate the dish once to ensure even cooking. The biscuits are done when golden brown on top, spring back to the touch, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Prepare Garlic Butter Topping: While the biscuits bake, mix together the melted butter, dried parsley flakes, and garlic powder in a small bowl.
  9. Brush Biscuits and Serve: Immediately after removing the biscuits from the oven, brush the garlic butter topping over their warm tops. Re-cut along the score lines and serve warm.

Notes

  • If you want to reduce the garlic intensity, reduce minced garlic to 2 cloves, but fresh garlic is recommended for best flavor.
  • You do not have to spray the baking dish with nonstick spray due to the butter, but it helps prevent sticking.
  • Fresh garlic is preferable to jarred garlic for a stronger and fresher flavor.
  • Optional: Add cheese to the biscuit dough for a cheesy twist.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days.
  • Oven temperatures vary; check biscuits for doneness by golden color and a clean toothpick test.
