Ingredients

			For the Biscuits:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 Tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 ¾ cups buttermilk (may need up to 2 cups)
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
- ¼ cup salted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 450°F. Spray a 9×9 inch oven-safe glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, aluminum-free baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution of ingredients.
- Add Wet Ingredients and Garlic: Pour in 1 ¾ cups of buttermilk and add the finely minced garlic. Stir until a sticky batter forms. If the batter appears too dry, add a little more buttermilk until it reaches a thick and sticky consistency.
- Melt Butter and Prepare Baking Dish: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the ½ cup salted butter. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish, creating a buttery base for the biscuits.
- Transfer and Spread Biscuit Dough: Pour the biscuit dough directly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Use a nonstick sprayed hand or a spatula to spread the dough evenly over the butter. Some butter will run over the top of the dough, which contributes to the moistness.
- Score the Dough: Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 roughly equal squares. This scoring helps to cut the biscuits easily after baking.
- Bake the Biscuits: Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 25-30 minutes. Halfway through baking, rotate the dish once to ensure even cooking. The biscuits are done when golden brown on top, spring back to the touch, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Prepare Garlic Butter Topping: While the biscuits bake, mix together the melted butter, dried parsley flakes, and garlic powder in a small bowl.
- Brush Biscuits and Serve: Immediately after removing the biscuits from the oven, brush the garlic butter topping over their warm tops. Re-cut along the score lines and serve warm.
Notes
- If you want to reduce the garlic intensity, reduce minced garlic to 2 cloves, but fresh garlic is recommended for best flavor.
- You do not have to spray the baking dish with nonstick spray due to the butter, but it helps prevent sticking.
- Fresh garlic is preferable to jarred garlic for a stronger and fresher flavor.
- Optional: Add cheese to the biscuit dough for a cheesy twist.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days.
- Oven temperatures vary; check biscuits for doneness by golden color and a clean toothpick test.
