Ingredients
Scale
Noodles and Sauce
- 8 oz lo mein noodles (cooked according to package instructions)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/4 cup hot boiled water
- 1 tbsp Beef Better Than Bouillon
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
Beef and Vegetables
- 1 lb beef, thinly sliced into strips
- 2 large carrots, diced into two-inch pieces
- 2 cups broccoli florets, chopped into two-inch pieces
- 1 large onion, diced into two-inch pieces
- 4 garlic cloves, pressed or minced
- Oil (olive or sesame) for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup hot boiled water, 1 tbsp Beef Better Than Bouillon, and 2 tbsp brown sugar. Stir well until the bouillon and sugar dissolve. Add 3 tbsp soy sauce to the mixture and set aside.
- Prepare Vegetables and Beef: Dice the carrots, broccoli, and onion into roughly two-inch pieces. Slice the beef into thin strips for quick and even cooking.
- Cook the Beef: Heat a skillet over high heat and add 1 tsp sesame oil. Add the beef strips and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté Onions: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, and sauté the diced onions until they turn golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Remove onions and set aside.
- Cook Carrots and Broccoli: Using the same skillet, sauté the carrots until they start to soften, about 4 minutes. Add broccoli florets and cook together for an additional 3 minutes until broccoli is crisp-tender. Return the sautéed onions to the pan.
- Add Garlic and Combine Ingredients: Press the garlic cloves into the vegetable mixture and stir to release their flavor. Add the cooked beef back into the skillet with the vegetables.
- Add Sauce and Simmer: Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and vegetables. Let it simmer for about 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Toss in Noodles: Add the cooked lo mein noodles into the skillet. Toss everything together thoroughly so that the noodles are well coated with the sauce and combined with the beef and veggies.
- Serve: Transfer the lo mein to a large serving dish. Toss again gently to bring all ingredients together. Serve immediately while hot for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use thinly sliced beef such as flank steak or sirloin for the best texture and quick cooking.
- Adjust soy sauce quantity to taste, especially if using low-sodium soy sauce.
- For extra flavor, add a splash of oyster sauce or a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes.
- Make sure noodles are cooked al dente to prevent them from getting too soft when tossed with the sauce.
- Feel free to substitute or add other vegetables like bell peppers, snap peas, or mushrooms.
