Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups raspberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup cane sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Combine ingredients: Place the raspberries, water, and cane sugar in a small saucepan and mix together to start the syrup base.
- Bring to boil: Heat the mixture over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture reaches a boil.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to release raspberry flavor and thicken the syrup.
- Steep and cool: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the syrup to cool for 10 minutes or longer for intensified raspberry flavor as the berries continue steeping.
- Strain: Pour the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl or large measuring cup to separate the seeds and pulp from the smooth liquid syrup.
- Store: Transfer the strained syrup into a glass jar or airtight container. Let cool completely before sealing. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
- Refrigeration: Keep syrup in a clean glass jar or airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Use a clean spoon each time and discard if syrup changes color, texture, flavor, or smell.
- Freezing: Syrup can be frozen in freezer-safe containers for 3-4 months. It remains pourable from the freezer due to high sugar content or can be thawed in fridge in about 30 minutes.
- Usage: Perfect for cocktails, mocktails, iced or hot tea, lemonades, and sodas. Also delicious drizzled on pancakes, yogurt, oatmeal, ice cream, or brushed onto warm cakes to add moisture and flavor.
