Bread:
- 1–1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1–1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (1 stick)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
Apple Mixture:
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
- 1–1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 large apple peeled, cored, and chopped into small pieces
Topping:
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Glaze:
- 3/4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour an 8.5 x 4.5 inch loaf pan.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar: Using a mixer, beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla until smooth and pale.
- Add eggs and flour: Beat in the eggs, then mix in the flour and milk alternately.
- Prepare apple mixture: Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and apples in a bowl.
- Layer batter and apples: Pour half of the batter in the pan, add half of the apple mixture, swirl, then repeat with the rest of the batter and apples.
- Add topping: Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
- Bake: Bake for 45-55 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
Notes
- For best results, use a firm apple variety like Granny Smith.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
