Description

A delicious and spicy Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp recipe featuring crispy shrimp coated with a flavorful mayo-based bang bang sauce and panko breadcrumbs, cooked to perfection in the air fryer. Served in fresh lettuce wraps and garnished with green onions, this dish is perfect for a quick and tasty appetizer or meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce

Breading & Shrimp

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined

For Serving

  • 1 head loose leaf lettuce
  • 2 green onions, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s ready for crispy cooking.
  2. Make the bang bang sauce: In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha sauce. Mix until smooth and creamy. Set aside a small portion of this sauce separately for dipping if desired.
  3. Set up breading stations: Place the all-purpose flour on one plate and the panko breadcrumbs on another plate for easy dipping and coating.
  4. Coat the shrimp: Take each shrimp and dredge it first in the flour to lightly coat, then dip it into the bang bang sauce mixture to cover thoroughly, and finally press it into the panko breadcrumbs to form a crunchy crust. Place the coated shrimp on a baking sheet as you go.
  5. Air fry the shrimp: Arrange the coated shrimp in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd them so they cook evenly. Cook for 12 minutes until golden and crispy. Depending on your air fryer size, cook the shrimp in batches if necessary.
  6. Serve: Once cooked, serve the shrimp immediately in lettuce wraps and garnish with chopped green onions for a fresh finish. Add extra bang bang sauce on the side for dipping if you reserved some earlier.

Notes

  • To avoid overcrowding in the air fryer, cook the shrimp in batches for crispiness.
  • Adjust the amount of sriracha sauce to control the spice level according to your preference.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour and panko breadcrumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
  • Use fresh loose leaf lettuce for the best texture and presentation in wraps.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, this recipe can be adapted to bake the shrimp in the oven at 425°F for 12-15 minutes.
